Project Manager, Sr.

Department Description: Healthcare Associates (HCA) is the robust academic adult primary care practice at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center offering comprehensive health services to enhance the quality of life for our patients. Based on the BIDMC hospital campus, we serve more than 40,000 patients from the greater Boston area. Our team of faculty and resident physicians, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, social workers, and frontline staff work together to provide a single class of exceptional, comprehensive care to our diverse patients. We provide integrated mental health and interpreter services. We also provide care both in person and via telehealth.

The Senior Project Manager (SPM) is at the center of the key strategic initiatives within the practice. The SPM role ranges depending on the needs of each project and team, from design to implementation to evaluation. The diverse portfolio of work this person is responsible for includes short-term operational and long-term strategic programs, from pilots to large-scale implementation and scale up. The SPM role offers a unique opportunity to be a part of conversations at multiple levels within the clinic and hospital, and learn from a variety of multidisciplinary leaders, providers, and staff.

Job Summary: Directs several complex projects simultaneously by utilizing the tools, techniques and methodology of professional project management
fundamentals to meet the current and anticipated needs of the organization. Achieves operational objectives by preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; completing audits; identifying trends; determining system improvements; and implementing change.

Essential Responsibilities:
  1. Manages complex projects and responds quickly to changing issues and priorities involving multiple departments and stakeholders. Develops solutions that are feasible, cost-effective and acceptable to the present stakeholders.
  2. Provides subject matter expertise for project management to project teams. Attends project team meetings to provide guidance, mentoring and coaching staff on the day-to-day project management methods
  3. Mentors adherence to project management standards and practices. Reviews team members project deliverables and ensures their work is in-line with project management best practice.
  4. Facilitates the project team leader discussion to define the process for identifying and documenting issues in a project and recommending corrective action. Takes the lead in the issue resolution process and identifies project priorities when resolving issues. Communicates the status of issue management activities to project team members and organization stakeholders.
  5. Manages project portfolio. Drives organizational change taking full account of obstacles, opposition, and differing stakeholder priorities. Acts as a champion for business process changes; acts behind the scenes to craft solutions for business problems related or tangential to the project.
Required Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred.
  2. 8-10 years related work experience required.
  3. Related experience in project management roles.
  4. Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. PMP certification strongly preferred with high degree of knowledge of PMP tools, techniques and methodologies.
  2. Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor colleagues.
  1. Written Communications: Ability to summarize and communicate in English moderately complex information in varied written formats to internal and external customers.
  2. Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information in English to medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
  3. Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex varied situations.
  4. Team Work: Ability to lead and direct multiple collaborative teams for large projects or groups both internal and external to the Medical Center and across functional areas. Results have significant implications for the management and operations of the organization.
  5. Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.
