Pharmacy Clinical Manager Med/Surg

Reporting to the Director of Clinical Pharmacy Programs, the Clinical Pharmacy Manager for Med/Surg will have a major role in the development and coordination of clinical pharmacy services in our Internal Medicine and Surgical practice sites. Qualified candidates for this position will have advanced training (PGY2) and/or equivalent clinical experience in the inpatient care setting.
Major responsibilities of this position will include: involvement and collaboration with the Divisions of Medicine and Surgery to provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care to patients admitted to the respective patient care units; active participation in the related departmental multidisciplinary meetings; collaborates with leadership and members of our Med/Surg teams to develop, review and maintain clinical protocols and guidelines; participates in the formulary review process and related P&T activities; coordinates medication use evaluation programs to ensure appropriate, safe and cost effective medication utilization; provides drug and clinical information to other healthcare professionals in response to specific questions relating to the care of patients; serves as a clinical mentor to the pharmacy staff and as a preceptor for the pharmacy residency program.
Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Pharmacy. Advanced training (PGY-2 Residency) or equivalent advanced experience as a Clinical Specialist in the inpatient setting required. Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Pharmacist to practice in Commonwealth of Massachusetts

Job Summary: Reporting to the Director of Clinical Pharmacy Programs, the Clinical Pharmacy Manager is responsible for leading and managing comprehensive clinical pharmacy services in a specific clinical area, or various clinical areas, as determined by hospital needs. The Clinical Manager will serve as the hiring manager for the clinical pharmacy staff in the related clinical practice sites. Other key responsibilities of this position includes, but is not limited to: staff development, team building, clinical practice site optimization, and the development of practice related policies/procedures and guidelines which promote medication safety, appropriate use of medications, formulary compliance, cost-effective practice, and optimal patient outcomes.
- Practices pharmacy in accordance with laws, rules and regulation of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy, Department of Public Health, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and Drug Enforcement Administration and in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures. Maintains credentials in accordance with the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy.
- Collaborates with the Clinical Director and Pharmacy Leadership to develop and implement clinical pharmacy programs and services in support of the pharmacy mission and strategic plan.
- Provides leadership and direction to the Clinical Pharmacy Team/s; Manages staff resources, to ensure staffing plans (pharmacist team schedule) meets departmental and patient care needs. Responsible for performance evaluations; staff training and development; team building; recruitment; vacation/leave approvals; disciplinary matters and other related personnel management duties.
- Serves as a Clinical Pharmacy Leader and active participant in hospital committees in related clinical practice area and others committees as needed.
- Works collaboratively with other health care providers and the clinical team members to develop and maintain a sound formulary system to support evidence based pharmaceutical care and cost-effective drug utilization. Coordinates formulary reviews, drug use evaluations, quality assurance programs.

- Assists in planning, monitoring and/or managing budget in functional area of department.
- Doctoral degree in Pharmacy (PharmD) required. Doctoral degree preferred.
- License Massachusetts Pharmacist required.
- 3-5 years related work experience required and 1-3 years supervisory/management experience required
- Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.
- PGY1 and PGY2 Pharmacy Residency.
- Board Certification in Related Practice.
