Direct Response Analytics Specialist


Department Description: Reporting to the Executive Director, Philanthropy Direct Response & Board Annual Fund, the BILH Direct Response Analyst is a key member of the Direct Response team who plays a role in the management and analysis of information in support of the Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH) annual giving fundraising efforts across BILH hospitals, including direct mail, email, and online, as well as for specialized annual fundraising efforts for BILH board members.

Job Summary: Reporting to the Senior Executive Director of Development, the Direct Mail Specialist is responsible for providing strategic planning, analysis, metrics and content development to drive our direct mail and online solicitations, drive donor acquisition, the development and execution of our direct mail campaigns and other fundraising communications projects to build a robust donor base.

Essential Responsibilities:
  1. Handle multiple projects simultaneously and manage these projects while negotiating deadlines as needed with a focus on quality; serve as the project manager for all technical and logistical aspects of activities that involve direct mail and mail lists (e.g. unrestricted and restricted programming and mailings).
  2. Work closely with direct mail consultants and vendors to coordinate the day-to-day activities that maximize direct mail and online strategies. Own data quality and validity for all mail list activities; provide technical solutions for additional intelligence and targeting (e.g.: data appends, suppression rules, etc.).
  3. Oversee creative writing process for strong written appeals designed to engaged donors.
  4. Oversee schedules and timelines that pertain to the program calendar for annual giving audiences as it compliments other activities office-wide.
  5. Plan and track targeted goals and benchmarks per each campaign as well as all Annual Giving revenue.
Required Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree required. Bachelor's degree in database marketing, computer science or related field preferred.
  2. 3-5 years related work experience required in project, technical, or data-driven direct mail analysis.
  3. Business application of data mining and experience using data to drive performance.
  4. Prior experience in direct response marketing, fundraising or a similar role.
  5. Strong customer service focus, excellent interpersonal skills, and technical aptitude.
  6. Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Strong experience with Raiser's Edge or comparable fundraising software and Electronic Marketing Tools (BBNC, Constant Contact, or Mail Chimp).
  2. Excellent analytical and planning skills with a creative eye; demonstrated presentation, organizational, facilitation and problem-solving skills.
  3. Independent decision-maker, able to utilize good judgment and ability to execute multiple assignments at any given time.

  1. Written Communications: Ability to summarize and communicate in English moderately complex information in varied written formats to internal and external customers.
  2. Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information in English to medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
  3. Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex varied situations.
  4. Team Work: Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows. Results may impact the operations of one or more departments.
  5. Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

Physical Nature of the Job:
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move through out the hospital campus
