Department Description: The Radiology Department at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Needham (BID Needham) offers a wide array of personalized services for our patients. We have short wait times and technologists whose top priority is accommodating you. As a community hospital, our staff offers a personal touch not always found at larger institutions. Our radiologists are members of the medical staff of the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Needham and the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) in Boston.

Job Summary: Demonstrates the knowledge of procedures and policies related to a CT Scan/Radiology department. Activities are specifically directed by the Radiologist and Radiology Clinical manager. Performs a wide variety of specific and specialized duties and procedures to hospital inpatients and outpatients in accordance with orders of physicians. Performs these duties using independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative. Develops procedural and protocol changes as directed by the radiologist. Ensures that the staff CT technologists are aware and competent with these changes. Assumes responsibility and quality of work in designated areas of procedures as required. Conducts performance evaluations and provides first line counseling to CT Technologists. Orients new staff to the CT department and all of its policies and procedures. Provides input to the Clinical manager on CT staff performance. This position requires a high level of technical and informatics knowledge and skill, to include necessary critical thinking skills. Will work in close cooperation with members of a team of physicians, nurses and other technical staff. The individual must be able to work in a fast paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle and prioritize multiple competing tasks and demands and to seek managerial assistance as appropriate. On a routine basis ensures that all CT Scan regulatory requirements are met and all required records are kept. Actively participates in departmental inspections conducted by various licensing and regulatory surveyors.

Essential Responsibilities:
  1. In conjunction with the CT Scan supervising radiologists, and Clinical Manager of Radiology, develops, edits and implements all imaging protocols.
  2. Follows departmental guidelines and protocols in performance of all procedures in CT Scan, to include all infection control policies.
  3. Follows departmental guidelines and protocols in scheduling and documentation of exams and maintaining accurate and complete records relative to the examinations performed.
  4. Insures that all exams requiring 3D lab review are accurately listed on the 3D dashboard.
  5. Communicates effectively with off-site radiologist in the protocols of and interpretation of exams.
  6. Confirms with patient two patient identifiers (Full Name & DOB). Effectively communicates with other units for the coordination of patient CT exams.
  7. Is responsible for performing annual performance appraisals of CT technologists in collaboration of the Clinical Manager.
  8. Monitors the quality of per diem staff exams and adherence to policy and provides input on staff performance to the Radiology Clinical Manager.
  9. Performs all required quality control on all equipment according to standard procedure, and regulatory requirements.
  10. Monitors CT patient dose and works with the physicist to reduce dose and investigate any recorded dose outliers.
Required Qualifications:
  1. Vocational or Technical training required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  2. License American Registry of Rad Tech required., and Registration MA Rad Tech-Compted Tomography required., and Certificate 1 Basic Life Support required.
  3. 0-1 years related work experience required.
  4. Radiology Information Systems and PACS knowledge.
  5. Experience with IV placement.
  6. Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Minimum of 3 years or equivalent CT Scan experience.
  2. Previous Supervisory experience.

  8. Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.
Age based Competencies:

Physical Nature of the Job:
Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 50 pounds of force frequently. Work is physically demanding and requires extended periods of standing and/or moving.
