Department Description: The Department of Pathology is involved with the diagnosis of cancer and other major medical conditions through the gross and microscopic examination of tissue samples obtained from surgical procedures and endoscopy (Anatomic Pathology).

Our department also provides clinical laboratory services to the hospital as well as consults in the areas of clinical chemistry, hematopathology, microbiology, and transfusion medicine (Clinical Pathology). Affiliated with Harvard Medical School, the Department of Pathology conducts research (linked )in the further characterization of disease processes and trains (linked text) the next generation of pathologists. As part of an unprecedented organizational initiative, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is now offering up to $7,000 in sign on bonuses for Pathology Team Leader positions.

Important Details:
Bonuses are paid out within the first 30 days of employment and are subject to applicable taxes. Full time status at BIDMC is considered for schedules greater than or equal to 30 hours per week; part time status is 20 to 29 hours per week Please note, per diem employees are not eligible for sign on bonuses. Job Summary: This position will support the Department of Pathology's QA/QI initiatives. Using epidemiological statistics, cause maps, flow charting, and process engineering, this position will develop processes to monitor and audit improvement activities throughout the department. Data collection, information synthesis, and structured documentation will be the primary functions of this position.

Essential Responsibilities:
  1. Develop the process improvement schedule for Pathology including monitor, documentation and audits.
  2. Analyze data gathered from clinical warehouses to drive improvement activities.
  3. Create visual tools to describe QI activies including cause maps and flowcharting.
  4. Communicate plans and activities to the department at large and educate staff.
  5. Audit the processes put into place for adherence to department goals
Required Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics or related field. required. Master's degree preferred.
  2. 5-8 years related work experience required.
  3. Working knowledge of biostatistics or epidemiological statistics
  4. Working knowledge of process engineering
  5. Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Working knowledge of cause maps and flowcharting
  2. Strong organizational skills and the ability to integrate and synthesize new information quickly; including compilation of data into reports

  7. Team Work: Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows. Results may impact the operations of one or more departments.
  8. Customer Service: Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude and respond to requests in a timely and respectful manner.

Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally in carrying, lifting, pushing, pulling objects. Sitting most of the time, with walking and standing required only occasionally
