Planned Giving Director

Job Summary: The Director of Planned Giving leads and manages a comprehensive planned giving program that reflects industry best practices and maximizes charitable contributions through various planned giving vehicles across the BILH system, with the exclusion of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), but will work collaboratively with the BIDMC Planned Giving Program to build consistency across the system. In addition to serving as the primary liaison and advisor to internal and external constituents for all matters related to planned giving, the Director will personally identify, cultivate, and solicit planned gifts. The Director will work collaboratively with, and train, the major gift teams of the member hospitals of Beth Israel Lahey Health to enable them to identify planned gift prospects and discuss bequests and planned gifts during cultivation and solicitation. The Director will work with individual donors and their financial advisors regarding their estate planning needs and respond to specific questions in the areas of philanthropic planning, family foundations, and wealth transfer.

Essential Responsibilities:
  1. Responsible for designing and leading a planned giving program that will ensure and enhance BILH hospitals' standing in the medical community and contribute to the Hospitals' strong financial base.
  2. Build a multi-year planned giving plan with appropriate goals with each individual hospital Vice President of Philanthropy leader.
  3. Achieve an average of eight to ten face-to-face visits per month.
  4. Enhance operational efficiency in planned giving. Ensure that all systems and processes from gift documentation to systems reporting are accurate and tailored to the standards of the BILH Philanthropy Office.
  5. Identify and build a portfolio of planned giving prospects for each affiliate in collaboration with major gift efforts. Identify, cultivate, and solicit planned gifts such as bequests, trusts, life-income gifts, real estate and alternative assests ranging from five to eight figures.
  6. Create impactful educational programs for each affiliate on the financial benefits of planned gifts for their constituents.
  7. Work closely with each hospital Vice President of Philanthropy and front line staff to increase Legacy Society membership of boards, donors and other affinity groups.
Required Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree required.
  2. 8-10 years related work experience required in Development experience with an established track record in development and implementation of strategies and plans to substantially increase revenue..
  3. Strong knowledge of financial and legal requirements of planned giving. Knowledge of the utilization of information systems to support fund raising activities.
  4. Ability to travel, occasional evening and weekend work, and to adjust to other needs of the department.
  5. Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Experience in healthcare development, especially with a demonstrated understanding of institutional advancement processes.
  2. Raiser's Edge and PG Calc experience.

  7. Team Work: Ability to lead collaborative teams for larger projects or groups both internal and external to the Medical Center and across functional areas. Results have implications for the management and operations of multiple areas of the organization.
  8. Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.
