Endoscope Reprocessing Technician II


Department Description: We are seeking a full time Endoscope Reprocessing Tech II working 40hrs/wk, requiring on call, rotating weekends and holidays to support the GI Unit.

Job Summary: Provides on-site support for the reprocessing of flexible endoscopes and related devices and equipment Gastroenterology Endoscopy procedural areas in compliance with manufacturers' instructions and or hospital policy.

The Endoscope Reprocessor Technician (ERT) II is certified in scope reprocessing. He or she will contribute to safe, quality and fiscally responsible cleaning of endoscopes per manufacturer and organizational instructions and adhere to all infection control policies at BIDMC. The ERT II is a competent practitioner who practices with minimal guidance and direction asking for assistance when necessary

Essential Responsibilities:
  1. Maintains inventories of endoscopic and reprocessing equipment and supplies.
  2. Performs safety checks to verify proper equipment functioning.
  3. Maintains and verifies compliance with all appropriate logbook entries.
  4. Prepares procedural rooms according to endoscopic procedure requirements.
  5. Cleans, disinfects, or calibrates scopes or other endoscopic instruments according to manufacturer recommendations and facility standards.
Required Qualifications:
  1. High School diploma or GED required.
  2. Certificate 1 Cer Endoscopy Reprocessor required.
  3. 1-3 years related work experience required.
  4. CER certification must be maintained for employment.
  5. Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

  5. Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and converse in English to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
  6. Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate full working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures and policies with the ability to use them in varied situations.
  7. Team Work: Ability to work collaboratively in small teams to improve the operations of immediate work group by offering ideas, identifying issues, and respecting team members.
  8. Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

Physical Nature of the Job:
Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 50 pounds of force frequently. Work is physically demanding and requires extended periods of standing and/or moving.
